Larson Justice Center, Indio, CA ~ Once again, in the City of Desert Hot Springs, Animal Control has shown it means business when it comes to dealing with those who would abuse these helpless creatures.
For the second time this year an animal abuse case has been prosecuted, with the outcome being conviction. Due to the teamwork of Desert Hot Springs Department of Animal Control and the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, with prosecuting District Attorney, Jake Sylva, Director June Parker has succes

Chief June Parker

sfully brought to justice another animal abuse offender.

Desert Hot Springs Police were called to the local residence by Chief Parker and during a heated encounter with the man, Officer Decker placed him under arrest.
Pleading guilty to physically striking his dog repeatedly with his fists on January 5, 2006, a Desert Hot Springs man was sentenced to three years probation, immediate loss of his dog and ordered by the presiding judge to pay the City of Desert Hot Springs, $11,435.00 in restitution. Further, he is restricted from living or working around animals and cannot own one during his probation period.
The amounts of fines and awards in the two cases prosecuted this year are in excess of $23,000.
Chief of Animal Control June Parker states firmly, "there is a zero tolerance for animal abuse in this city," and to enforce this, she has implemented an ongoing training program with such agencies as the American Humane Society, National Animal Control Academy and Riverside County District Attorney's office, just to name a few.
Although there are good and honorable animal facilities elsewhere in the desert area, Desert Hot Springs Animal Control, with Chief June Parker's dedication to the animals, continues to put the Desert Hot Springs 'no-kill' facility, in the forefront of the many animal shelters throughout the Coachella Valley.
