Closing Cabots Is Big Mistake

August 20, 2006

Buzz Gambill

It is obvious that the city has to make sacrifices and cuts in revenue-draining programs, as well as cutting the fat around city hall. Most citizens understand this and will no doubt, do what is expected of them during this economical crisis.
But some of the programs targeted for termination are questionable.
Code Enforcement? Can a city riding the crest of a "building boom" really make progress without a code enforcement officer on staff? It was hard enough before to get one out to look at a building site. Now that won't be a problem, since there won't be any to call. Do you suppose that some unscrupulous developers may take advantage of this? Will they have a field day? Time will tell.
And what about the closing of Cabot's Pueblo Museum? This is hard to fathom. This town only has three attractions, and beside the "Angel in the Mountain" and the greatest water in the world, Cabot's Museum was it! Apparently tourists or sight-seers are not welcome; only homeowners with ready cash. With the closing of the museum, you will see it fall into ruin; this beautiful, one-of-a-kind structure that has been a beloved and historic landmark to thousands of people. It has been photographed, it has been sketched, drawn and painted;it has been the backdrop for movies, and television shows have showcased it. It is the heart of Desert Hot Springs and has been since it was built and the first hot water wells were discovered by Cabot Yerxa. The beautiful old structure is a meeting destination for many friends who make the sojourn annually. Soon you will see it covered with graffiti. It will be vandalized as it was before when it was closed. Thousands of artifacts and treasured historic items were stolen at that time, never to be seen or enjoyed again. This will make an excellent hangout for the homeless and a perfect hideout for drug dealers. Desert varmints will find a home here. The landscaping will suffer and decay and the greenery around the premises will die and turn to dust, as will many memories.
The loss of Edna Wells is a gigantic blow to the well-being of the museum. She cannot be replaced; not by any amount of volunteers. The dedication and devotion she has shown for the dear old pueblo cannot be measured. She has been a caring and hard-working curator of the museum and for the sacrifices she has made and the time she has donated to the
Pueblo cannot be calculated. She has stood before the council any number of times to report and promote the programs she has conceived to make operating capital for the museum.
Due to a big mistake about fifteen years ago, the city and its residents lost the famous and historic "Coffee's Spa", the first commercial water well in Desert Hot Springs. This can never be replaced or brought back. It is a great loss for us all. We must not let this happen again. We cannot afford to lose what has the potential of being one of the most attractive historic sites in California.

It’s All About The Documents

By Assemblyman Ray Haynes

May 8, 2006

Everything we do in life is about the documents.  We are born, we live, and we die with documents attached to us.  So whenever you here someone claim that something is not wrong, it is just “undocumented,” keep that in mind.

For instance, in California, if you practice law without the appropriate documentation twice, you are guilty of a felony.  Would it be a defense to that felony charge that you are not a felon, but rather just an undocumented lawyer?

How about the unauthorized practice of medicine?  If someone dies, and you don’t have the right medical documents, you are guilty of murder.  It is not just the “undocumented” provision of medical services.

Unlicensed contractors?  Just undocumented carpenters, bricklayers, engineers, plumbers, and electricians.

We even have documents that establish our ownership of our property.  Car thieves are car thieves, not undocumented motor vehicle operators.  Trespassers are trespassers, not undocumented easement holders.  If you take property from a store without a receipt, you are a thief, not an undocumented possessor of property

Businesses require the right licenses from government.  Indeed, if someone starts up a bank and does not get a license from the state and federal government will find that they will go to jail for being an “undocumented” money lender or “undocumented” savings institution.  It is not a defense to their crime to say that they don’t “have the right documents.”

One of my favorites came from one of my legislative colleagues this last week, when informed that the Democrats wanted to take last Monday off to participate in the immigration protests.  He said he had found former legislators who were qualified to do the job of the California Legislature, were willing to do the work of the current Legislature at half the cost to the taxpayer, and would show up to do the job.  Their only problem?  They were undocumented, they had not received the right documents from the Secretary of State to vote in the Legislature.

The absurdity of the claims of those who wish to justify the lawlessness of those who break our immigration laws by calling those illegal aliens “undocumented immigrants” is evident.  Everything we do in life is about the documents.  We get a birth certificate that establishes our citizenship, and a death certificate that establish inheritance rights.  Deeds say who owns real estate, and contracts establish legal obligations.  If we don’t have registration for our car, we can go to jail as a thief, or, at the very least get a ticket.  In fact, we don’t even have laws unless some legislator gets a document passed through the Legislature and signed by the Governor.  All of life requires the right “documents.”

The protests of this last week can be encapsulated this way:  thousands of criminals wanted the government to ignore their crime.  That reality is not changed by saying that they “are human and we need to recognize their humanity.”  Of course we recognize their humanity; they just need to follow the law.  We will not justify their lawlessness any more that we would justify the lawlessness of a trespasser or thief on the grounds that they “needed” the property they took.  Marching in the street, protesting the enforcement of a law does not justify breaking that law.  A legal system that rewards lawbreakers is destined to collapse into anarchy.  Indeed, those who protested this last week were asking for anarchy; an open border and unlimited immigration.  That is dangerous for our country (as 9/11 pointed out), and extremely shortsighted.

Our immigration laws may be complicated, but that does not justify ignoring them.  We should enforce those laws, and, if the enforcement proves that the laws are unworkable, then you look at changing the law.  But until that happens, the laws should stand, and they should be enforced.

Why Do 'Guest Workers' Need to get Citizenship?

By Vincent Gioia

For as long as the illegal immigration problem has been around, advocates for illegal immigrants have tried to impress everyone that those coming here illegally are merely trying to get a job and earn money; therefore, we should not punish them for violating our laws by entering the United States illegally.
Every 20-years or so, congress wakes up to the illegal immigration problem and proposes a ‘cure’. The last time congressional slumber was aroused, laws were passed to give ‘amnesty’ to millions of illegal immigrants here at that time. This ‘cure’ did not halt the tide of illegal immigration, in fact, it increased. Also increased were the cost of welfare and other entitlements, burdens on local communities around the country, especially in the southwest, and burdens and cost of healthcare. Hospital emergency rooms continue to function as local general medical practitioners, straining resources and sometimes making it difficult for ‘emergency rooms’ to be available for actual medical emergencies. Although illegal immigrants are certainly not the only source of crime, crime increases unnecessarily with the added criminal pool.
Now we have congress members stepping all over themselves to produce the latest ‘cure’ for illegal immigration, unfortunately led by the president himself. Many proposals are in the mix, but all envision some sort of ‘guest worker’ program. Such a program is deemed necessary by business that covets low cost labor, and Democrats that see an expanded dependency class that will vote for them, if everyone will agree to another amnesty provision that will add to voter rolls. However, since ‘amnesty’ has become a dirty word for many, sort of like the word ‘liberal’, supporters have to lie and say their proposals are not ‘amnesty’; the proposals only permit citizenship after those here illegally ‘pay’ a price. The payment may be payment of money, and/or a requirement to work here at sub par wages for some period of time. Thus, this is not considered ‘amnesty’ because the illegal immigrant will have earned their right to citizenship. Citizenship in the United States should not be a prize to be awarded for violating our country’s laws. Only immigrants who comply with U. S. laws should qualify for citizenship.
Unfortunately for Orwellian doublespeak supporters of illegal immigrants, words still have recognized meanings, that is, until changed by liberal dictionary writers. According to my Funk and Wagnall’s (not really, it’s my unabridged Random House Dictionary), the word
‘amnesty’ means in the case of law “an act of forgiveness for past offenses, esp. to a class of persons as a whole”. Also mentioned, actually as the first definition, is “a general pardon for offenses, esp. political offenses, against a government, often granted before any trial or conviction”. The accepted definition of amnesty does not exclude crime violators who have to ‘stand in the back’ of the citizenship line, or who pay for citizenship, or who are willing to work for very low wages a while before getting to become a citizen. When a crime is committed, the offender is only excused from conviction and punishment by, you guessed it, AMNESTY.
So I will not be confused with the many who only criticize but offer no solutions, I do have a real ‘cure’ for the illegal immigration problem.
This is what I propose: a real guest worker program but without granting citizenship opportunity to actual guest workers coming to the United States “to get a job and earn money for themselves and their families, and who are willing to take a job Americans will not do”; the latter is another of the mantras offered by illegal immigrant supporters.
There is no need to also offer a carrot of citizenship; after all, we are told that is not the motivation of illegal immigrants anyway. Here then is my nine-point program (I reserve the right to add other terms to the program as I think of them):
1. Establish a procedure whereby a non-citizen who wishes to work in the United States may complete a simple application form, providing name and other data to enable a criminal background check (the non-citizen applicant need not only be from Mexico); after a suitable, but short, period of time during which the background check will be completed, the applicant returns to get a time-limited, distinguishable, guest worker entry card which may be used to gain entry and employment and as a residence permit, or is refused because of failure to be approved in the background check. One application for a guest worker card
must be completed for each guest worker. Families of guest workers are not encompassed by a guest worker card for lawful entry into the United States, and residence.
2. Anyone hiring an employee who is not a citizen who does not have a valid guest worker card, and anyone seeking employment without a valid guest worker card, should be guilty of a felony.
3. Anyone knowingly assisting illegal entry into the United States should be guilty of a felony. Anyone assisting illegal immigrants in the United States by providing humanitarian aid should not be guilty of a crime, but anyone assisting someone to violate any law in this country should be also guilty of a crime.
4. Anyone remaining in the United States after expiration of their guest worker card will be returned to their home country and refused admission thereafter. Those desiring to renew a guest worker card may do so before expiration but another application must be filed and another criminal background check must be completed before a renewal may be issued.
5. Guest workers are obligated to pay federal, state and local taxes while in the United States, but not social security taxes. Guest workers must also purchase health insurance for themselves and their families if the family is created while a resident of the United States while here, or make arrangements for their employer to provide them and their family with paid health insurance. Guest workers and their families will not be entitled to receive social security benefits.
6. Children of guest workers born in the United States must not be automatically entitled to U. S. citizenship. The alternative of deporting pregnant women to their home country prior to delivery is not acceptable. It is imperative that citizenship is not granted to guest workers or their offspring.
7. Guest workers may qualify for certain, particular government benefits. Examples of such benefits may be: education for their children in grades K to 12 in public schools; housing benefits equal to citizens of equal income levels; food benefits equal to citizens of equal income levels; clothing benefits, if any, equal to citizens of equal income levels; and other benefits to be determined as a matter of fairness.
8. The Mexican border should be unconditionally strengthened. We should construct a suitable wall on our entire Mexican border, with appropriate entry check points. Those who equate this with the Berlin Wall are sadly mistaken; the Berlin Wall was to keep people inside, our wall is to keep unauthorized people out of our country. This is imperative for security and border control. It will have the additional benefit of assisting with limiting entry of narcotics. Laws regarding illegal entry and other restrictions must be vigorously enforced. If adequate numbers of border control agents are not available, National Guard troops should be deployed at the border after suitable training. National Guard deployments should be for limited, specific predetermined terms for each guardsman, and should not be unduly long.
9. Lawful citizen border patrols should not be discouraged.

Holding Teachers to a Higher Standard

David Horowitz

By now I'm sure you're aware of the Colorado high school geography teacher -- Jay Bennish -- who approached teaching his class like a Political Officer from Stalin's regime.
You're probably aware that he's been suspended for subjecting his students to his political rant after one of his victims recorded his so-called lecture and turned the tape over to the press. We can only hope Bennish's suspension lasts a very, very long time.
Sean Allen, the student who blew the whistle on this outrage is a reader of our website FrontpageMagazine.com and has followed our academic freedom campaigns. Fighting back does make a difference.
We cannot afford to continue turning a blind eye to what is going on in K-12 classes across the country. That's why our powerful National Campaign for Academic Freedom is so important.
We've been fighting on college campuses from coast to coast to expose the entrenched radical left's grip on our institutions of higher learning. Colorado high school student Sean Allen is only one of thousands of students we have inspired to resist the transformation of our schools into centers of political indoctrination and recruitment.
As the Jay Bennish episode demonstrates, our children are abused daily by teachers who routinely and selfishly ignore their primary job, that is, to educate young people so they can survive in the world.
Bennish's outrage that took the form of an attack on America, capitalism, and the President is angering, of course, but ultimately immaterial. What you and I must draw attention to is the reckless negligence Bennish embraced as he abused his power. Public school teachers are trusted public servants -- paid with our tax dollars.
We don't put up with police abusing their power. We don't put up with any public servant taking advantage of our trust or their position -- teachers should be held to the same standards!

Who's Behind the Immigration Rallies?
By Ben Johnson
FrontPageMagazine.com          March 29, 2006

BIG CORPORATIONS AND THE FAR-LEFT HAVE ONE THING IN COMMON: both like to employ cheap illegal immigrants to do their heavy lifting.

The leftist media have tried to portray this weekend’s massive protests against House measures to curtail illegal immigration as the uprising of “The Other America”: forgotten, humble, hidden Hispanic members of the working poor simply demanding their “rights.” As events spanned from California to Detroit, Phoenix to Washington, D.C., the media kept up its anti-enforcement drumbeat. Although some have credited Latino DJs for the 500,000-strong illegal immigrant turnout in Los Angeles alone – and some credit is deserved – the real legwork was done by a more eclectic group of organizations: leftist labor unions, George Soros-funded agitators, Open Borders lobbyists, Roman Catholic clergy, and teachers unions.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles predictably had the largest turnout – and the most disruptive. Half-a-million people crowded the streets demanding the “right” to flaunt this nation’s immigration laws, and underage students ran onto a California freeway, risking their lives and shutting down interstate traffic.

Andres Jiminez, director of the University of California's California Policy Research Center, told the media, “It's not only Latinos who are marching in the streets, its unions too: firefighters, farm workers and Hispanic students who had thought of U.S. law as protecting them and are now starting to see it as a threat to their future.”

He was right about this much: Latino organizations did not act alone. The media has failed to report that organized labor directed the illegals and minors. The L.A. Times revealed the rally’s “security” was handled by a union identified only as “Local 1877.” That would be local 1877 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the far-Left union founded by New Left radical Andrew Stern, which called for the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Iraq in June 2004 and worked in concert with Ted Kennedy to roll back anti-terrorist Homeland Security measures. According to the L.A. Times, the SEIU’s goons kindly helped “herd marchers along the route.” That was not the extent of SEIU’s help, though. The union also “coordinated the more than 100 buses that dropped off marchers from throughout California, Las Vegas and a few Southwestern cities.”

In other words, the massive rally against Homeland Security – since that is what gaining control of America’s borders would promote – was staged by a leftist labor union and staffed primarily with illegal immigrants.

SEIU did not work alone in this. It was aided by other radical or left-wing political pressure groups, including:

·        Southern California Human Rights Network (SCHRN), whose members are apparently affiliated with the International Socialist Organization. SCHRN drafted a resolution in Orange County declaring, “We believe that no human is illegal and oppose the criminalization, dehumanization, and exploitation of migrants, immigrants and or economic and political refugees, by means of media, legislation, ideology, rhetoric, etc. [This] includes augmenting border patrol units, commissioning other law enforcement agencies to work in conjunction with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and [includes] such policies as the Central American Free Trade Agreement, the North American Free Trade Agreement, and other policies that exploit the indigenous, peasantry, and environments of countries abroad.” In other words, capitalism and any form of immigration laws are exploitative.

·        Pomona Day Labor Center, which helps employers hire “day laborers.” One must presume this organization knows its employees are illegals.

·        Central American Resource Center, which advocates for illegals and lobbies for the government to make a “‘presumption’ of hardship” for and grant “permanent residency” to Central American illegals.

·        Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), founded in 1986 to “get as many people as possible through the amnesty program established” by Ronald Reagan.

The cause is being helped in another way by the Los Angeles Unified School District – where more than 25,000 walked out of classes: through taxpayer-subsidized lobbying courses. According to the district, students “would remain in their home rooms through the day for discussions on the immigration issue, how to influence lawmakers and the consequences of walkouts, said Rowena Lagrosa, executive officer for educational service.” (Emphasis added.)

Michelle Malkin obtained a copy of a letter Lagrosa wrote Monday to the students of the school district stating LAUSD would chauffer students to high school after they protested on the freeway. The letter states after the rally, the district “will provide buses to return students to schools when appropriate.”  Moreover, “we will do everything we can to ensure that those students who do leave the campus are supervised as they leave the campus.”

Naturally, the leftist groups, illegals, and teachers unions could count on the media to cover for them. Mickey Kaus pointed out in Slate that the L.A. Times wrapped the protestors in the American flag, erasing all references to the Mexican standard, although the Mexican flag was hoisted at least as often in the crowd as Old Glory.

Gone from the media coverage, too, was mention that these protests had all the hallmarks of leftist riots of bygone days. Although depicted as nonviolent and mainstream, FrontPage Magazine columnist Tammy Bruce noted Hispanic protestors burned American flags at the L.A. rallies. Michelle Malkin has preserved some of the protestors’ other extremist messages. L.A. protestors ran onto freeways and threw rocks and bottles. LAPD Chief William Bratton – who put his men on tactical alert – said the protestors diverted police resources from fighting crime in the City of Angels. Fights broke out at protests in Watsonville, CA, and police arrested 21 minors and three adults for riotous behavior, including assaulting a police officer, in Escondido, CA.

D.C.: “Clergy” Against the Law

On Monday, the “mainstream media” reported some 300 clergy met near the Capitol for a prayer service to support illegal immigrants. The rally flyer claims these concerns sacerdotal ministers objected to legislation that would “Deny basic civil rights to immigrants.” No outlet reported this meeting was organized by the far-Left Center for Community Change, a member of the United for Peace and Justice coalition, headed by atheist and Marxist Leslie Cagan. On the CCC Board of Directors are:

  • Former Rep. Ron Dellums, D-CA, the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee 1993-7. A letter written by a Dellums staffer to Grenada’s Marxist dictator discovered by U.S. troops as they liberated the island stated besides that toppled Marxist, “The only other person that I know of that [Dellums] expresses such admiration for is Fidel [Castro]”;
  • Cecelia Munoz, VP of the National Council of La Raza;
  • Sara K. Gould of the Ms. Foundation for Women;
  • Peter Edelman, a professor at Georgetown Law School, former Clinton administration official, and board president of the New Israel Fund. Today, he is perhaps best known as the husband of Hillary Clinton mentor Marian Wright Edelman. ; and
  • Sandra L. Ferniza, Arizona State University’s director of the Office of Public Affairs.

CCC is generously funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Ford Foundation, the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, the George Soros-funded Open Society Institute, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Tides Foundation.

Other event sponsors include:

  • Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). A large, sometimes violent leftist organization with a history of invading welfare offices and intimidating left-wing groups it perceives as “rivals.” In 2003, the group supported a resolution condemning the U.S. liberation of Iraq. ACORN’s would-be platform calls for the establishment of socialism in the United States. It founded the socialist Working Families Party in 1998 and endorsed Hillary Clinton’s senate campaign two years later.
  • American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). Although it has long presented itself as a benign Quaker organization, the AFSC has a multi-decade history of supporting unilateral disarmament and aiding Communist regimes, even eulogizing the head of a Tanzanian Communist party 13 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. AFSC signed a document days after 9/11, saying the terrorist attacks should be treated as a police matter. It has for decades promoted the “rights” of illegal workers.
  • League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). Steve Brown and Chris Coon reported, “José Velez, the head of LULAC 1990-1994 used his “special status with the INS” to submit false papers for over 6,000 illegals seeking amnesty.”  LULAC is today associated with race-based Affirmative Action programs and often allied with Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow/PUSH Coalition.
  • Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition. As I noted in my book, 57 Varieties of Radical Causes, Teresa Heinz Kerry awarded a Heinz Family Foundation grant to MIRA. In June 2002, MIRA instructed its members, “Please do NOT aid people in applying with INS unless you are familiar with their immigration history and are certain they would not be at risk of deportation by doing so.” (Emphasis theirs.) Immediately after 9/11 a MIRA press release asked people to “Refer local Arab, Muslim, and affected groups to MIRA.” They also advocate for illegals to receive in-state college tuition rates.
  • National Council of La Raza, a race-based organization that signed the Statement of Solidarity with Migrants,” calling on the government to recognize the contributions of illegal immigrants to the labor market. It calls reduced welfare payments (to illegals), ““a disgrace to American values” and has firmly opposed numerous Homeland Security measures; and
  • The Gamaliel Foundation, a leftist organization inspired by Saul Alinsky. In addition to lobbying for illegal aliens, this member of the “Religious Left” hosted a campaign event in 2003 featuring Sen, Russ Feingold, D-WI, and then-presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich.

The event was another attempt for the Left to wrap its message in clerical garb, this time executed successfully.

Phoenix

Also on Monday, several hundred underage students in Phoenix staged a walkout that culminated with protests at the state Capitol. Underreported was the role played in the rallies by MEChA, a radical Hispanic organization demanding the U.S. government give the Southwestern portion of the United States “back” to Mexican-Americans for the establishment of a new state called Aztlan. MEChA promotes its agenda alongside the National Council of La Raza, Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), and the American Friends Service Committee.

A sense of MEChA-like entitlement pervaded the entire rally, as an illegal alien told the media:

I'm not a criminal. I'm a good person and I deserve a quality education. That's why I'm here. To show that I'm willing to work toward that goal and that I've earned that right.

She did not elaborate on how she “earned” the “right” to illegally cross the border and access taxpayer-subsidized services restricted to U.S. citizens.

Georgia

Last Friday, tens of thousand of Georgians, including not a few illegals, staged a “sick-in” to protest a bill that passed the state house the day before. CNN reported, “That bill, which has yet to gain Senate approval, would deny state services to adults living in the U.S. illegally and impose a five percent surcharge on wire transfers from illegal immigrants.” Not only do immigrants have the “right” to live in Georgia illegally and collect government services, they also have the “right” to use Western Union without paying an extra five cents on the dollar. That’s some willingness to contribute to one’s home country. These are supposedly the minority members willing to work tirelessly to help their host country at jobs no one wants.

FrontPage Magazine columnist Allan Wall – whose National Guard brigade recently returned from serving our country in Iraq – has pointed out the Georgia protest’s organizer, Teodoro Maus, acted as Mexico’s consul general in Atlanta for 12 years. During that time, this Mexican government official protested Georgia’s declaration of English as the state’s official language, opposed a talk show host who supported border enforcement, and petitioned the Peach State to issue drivers licenses to illegals. Maus’ involvement raises the question whether Friday’s unofficial labor strike had the sanction of the Mexican government.

Dallas-Ft. Worth

Yesterday, area school districts estimated 4,000 students walked out in Dallas-Ft. Worth alone, staging a violent and disruptive rally to sanctify their illicit status.

Media accounts specify: “At Kiest Park, about 1,500 students from Dallas and Grand Prairie schools demonstrated. Dallas police outfitted in riot gear moved in on the crowd after some of the students started throwing rocks and bottles at a woman who staged a one-person counterprotest.” (Emphasis ours.)

Protestor Francisco Rojas, speaking in Spanish, told The Dallas Morning News, “It's like an animal that's waking from many years of sleep. We are very strong, and right now is our opportunity.”

These minor students then processed into a city council meeting, waving Mexican and El Salvadoran flags. To her credit, Councilwoman Elba Garcia courageously commandeered a police PA system to tell the truants to go back to school (where Dallas school officials said this week’s walkouts will be an unexcused absence). The warning came too late for one girl, whose hand was severed as a result of an accident that took place at the walkout.

Undeterred by the violence and harm done to their children’s education, leaders in the Open Borders Lobby set out plotting their next move. “At a dinner meeting of the Latino group LULAC, leaders announced a major rally on April 9. ‘We are going to be having, hopefully it will be the largest civil rights demonstration in the history of Dallas, Texas – 100,000-plus,’ said LULAC representative Domingo Garcia.”

No word on how many lone women will be battered the next time Mexican citizens exercise American First Amendment rights.

The Impact

These massive gatherings of illegals, who denounced their government unmolested by police or immigration officials, had an immediate impact – on legislation and on border security.

Reporter Sara Carter of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin says since these protests, border patrol agents have reported an explosion in illegal crossings from Mexicans (and others) keenly observing the Senate debate and emboldened by same. Some were under the impression amnesty had already been granted and hoped to be the first to take part in the second California Gold Rush. [1]

The rallies had a political impact, too. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-CO, stated on Monday:

The immigration rallies over this weekend and today show how disordered our immigration system has become. For years, the government has turned a blind eye to illegal aliens who break into this country. It isn’t any wonder that illegal aliens now act as if they are entitled to the rights and privileges of citizenship.

As a sign of their political impact, Republicans immediately began discussing the potential threat their political careers face from an Hispanic backlash, should they have the temerity to pretend the United States is a sovereign nation with definable political boundaries.

Leftists and illegals began their massive protest – because they saw U.S. law “as a threat to their future” – the same day the Senate Judiciary Committee passed a bill that would allow illegals to attain American citizenship without facing deportation by a 12-6 vote. John McCain joined forces with Ted Kennedy to promote this amnesty measure. “It is not amnesty,” said Ted Kennedy, who has a 41-year history of fibbing about immigration bills.

The Judiciary Committee yesterday approved Dick Durbin’s amendment granting amnesty to individuals and non-profits that provide non-emergency aid to illegal immigrants. The committee had previously approved Durbin’s amendment to drop illegal immigration to a misdemeanor offense.

These measures are at odds with the will of the American people. According to the Associated Press, 59 percent of Americans oppose laws allowing illegal immigrants to apply for guest worker status, and 62 percent oppose easing the path to U.S. citizenship for those who are here illegally.

Americans know illegal immigrants account for nearly one-third of all inmates in federal prisons and add millions of dollars to their tax load every year. Even Mother Jones magazine exposed the health dangers posed to border towns throughout America, as a result of uninsured illegals bankrupting local hospitals – six years ago.

Americans cannot comprehend why Congress feels a need to add a guest worker program to mollify these disruptive, violent, lawbreaking protestors, who are occasionally political radicals and overwhelmingly individuals who are in violation of U.S. immigration law. What makes Congressmen think those whose first action in this country was to break the law will suddenly obey their newest futile measure?

These illegals claimed they marched to demand their “rights.” Those would amount to the right to a speedy trial, followed by rapid deportation. Illegal aliens have no additional rights under our Constitutional system, nor should they be given any. A more inspired leadership, with a requisite number of border patrol agents and paddy wagons, would have made these massive rallies an instructive object lesson in the enforcement of immigration law. Instead, political cowardice has transformed them into international exhibits of American impotence and paralysis.

The Washington Press Corps Misses Again
By Lee Ellis - March 2006

On Tuesday night, Feb 20, NBC and the other nets broke with the Dubai story---a story that had broken an entire week before and was a big discussion at “Tuesdays at Morrie's” on the 14th. (This is a panel of conservatives who meet weekly at The Desert Willow club in Palm Desert, CA with the nationally known Morris Beschloss to exchange political ideas.)
Why was the press, especially The Washington Press Corps so quiet on this story? Why had they hidden it? Because to them, the Vice President's accidental shooting was much more important to their giant egos, not because of the story, but rather because the VP had given the story to the Corpus Christi Caller Times in Texas before they received it. They complained about the story being "covered up" for 18 hours. How about the fact that their Dubai story, one of the most important stories about American security had been covered up for 192 hours because they chose to highlight the Cheney story instead of this serious threat to America.
Apparently, they wanted the VP to immediately spend time right after the accidental shooting by ignoring his bloody friend on the ground and instead, to call in reporters to film the event.
Thanks to the personal character possessed by the VP, he chose, instead, to use this valuable time to be sure his friend was in a reputable hospital and that the family members heard about his friend's condition directly from him, not from TV or radio. Then and only then, did he have a witness to the accident, his hostess for the event, the owner of the ranch where this accident occurred, call a local Texas newspaper.
I would hate to be wounded while with the VP. I can just see David Gregory shoving an NBC camera into my face as he kept screaming at my blood-covered head, "How do you FEEL about being shot by a Republican VP?
Are you now against guns for Americans or are you a jerk?
Incidentally, hunters tell me that quail hunting is different from any other type of hunting and, as a result, quail hunters do get accidentally hit with pellets.
Should reporters have been interviewing each other for a full week, while six American ports were being taken over by the Arabs in the United Arab Emirates?
The Press proved its inability to cover news truthfully this week. They made Nixon's 18 minute missing tape and Cheney’s 18 hour missing story irrelevant compared to their 192 hour failure to report one of the most important stories to come out on the war on terror!

The Changing Times - Loss of Civility

By Vincent Gioia

Maybe it’s a generational thing, but even at age 71, I still refer to ‘older’ people as Mr. Mrs., Miss., and not by their first name unless I know them. Therefore, it is somewhat annoying to go to a bank, or the like, and have someone that wasn’t born yet when I opened my bank account call me ‘Vince’. Not only do I dislike being called ‘Vince’ instead of ‘Vincent’, but the overly familiar address to me by a child of the times is to me disrespectful.

This kind of encounter today is also an indication of how low we have fallen from the days not long ago when people made an effort to ‘not disrespect’ each other while criticizing. Can you, like me, remember when it was appropriate for those that disagreed to do so respectfully?
We don’t need to go back to the formation of our country for examples, we can look back a mere 30 or 40 years ago, perhaps less, when disagreeing politicians did not resort to name calling or outright lies to disparage an opponent. Yet today, we have an entire political party, whose symbol is, appropriately enough, a ‘jackass’, with members that resort to the harshest of rhetoric, no doubt because they have no intelligent arguments to advance instead.

Throughout the news media, incredible labels are used to refer to President Bush, and conservatives, (I deliberately don’t use the term Republicans because many Republicans that disagree with conservatives are media darlings). It is quite common to see the president and conservatives identified in the "news" as ‘terrorists’, ‘idiots’, ‘liars’, ‘traitors’, and worse. When language skills of these critics rise to the level of the ability to create phrases, we are told that conservatives ‘want to kill children or old people’, ‘want to take the food out of the mouths of the unfortunate that have not won life’s lottery’, ‘have lied us into war’ or ‘terrorized poor Iraqi people’. I am sure you can add many, many more examples; all you have to do is pick up the local newspaper or tune in to major network news.

It is more than shameful to see or hear prominent people, some of them "so-called" leaders, speak in these terms about honorable, well meaning people. The constant barrage of this hyperbole is very infuriating. The fury is made worse by the lack of repudiation of such absurdities by conservatives. It may not be easy to mount a similar offensive without the majority news media as allies, but there are ways to get the correct message to the American people to counter distortions and lies. The president is in the best position of all to do this because of the ability to use the ‘bully pulpit’. However there are other means available.
During the Clinton administration, hardly a day would go by without some spokesman or other, sometimes cabinet members, and usually more than one, going on television singing the praises of the most morally corrupt president in history. How many times did we hear that performing a sexual act in the oval office was not important and in any case, was a private matter? (I shudder to think what a ‘public’ matter would be, performing on the White House lawn?) Probably the most absurd of all was the excuses given by Clintonistas that lying under oath about sex was all right and not worthy of condemnation.

What the conservatives need are articulate voices, of whom there are many, that will constantly appear on the TV ‘news’ and other shows to address the liberals and their nonsensical allegations and accusations. American people on the whole are fairly capable of sorting the trash, but as Goebbels showed the world, lies repeated loud enough and often enough can be effective to sway public opinion.

HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE VOTES TO BLOCK DUBAI PORTS DEAL

Lee's note:  Republicans have always been known how to shoot themselves in their collective feet! They proved it again today by helping Democrats and Terrorists alike.

What will these Republicans say after defeating Bush today when

1, Democrats use the media to convey to voters the Democrats were right all the time; Republicans finally admitted it by revolting against the President!.

2. If we have to fight Iran or Syria, how will we do it when we have no more bases in the UAE to launch missile or air attacks against them?

3. UAE is the only part of the Middle East that feeds us intelligence, gives us airfields and ports to launch attacks. Without this we will lose five years of effort. With no intelligence being fed us from the Arab world, we risk many more 9/11 type attacks!  Blame the panicky Republicans who will do more for their own power than to safeguard America from false ideas and bad polls.

4. UAE planned to pay Americans to work our docks, NOT Arabs.  These foreign-owned businesses have nothing to do with ownership of the American ports or their security. USA Port Authority owns ports; USA  Homeland Security and Coast Guard  protect our ports, not the cargo handlers!

Mort Kondracke, a Democrat, wisely said on Fox News today that today was like a bank run ----sheer panic by Congress due to upcoming elections!

5. Some Americans in Ohio, Florida, and New Jersey have already proved that it is NOT citizenship that gives us loyalty. What makes these Senators and Representatives think that safety depends on who the top owners of a business are. Giving away the Panama Canal was dangerous; letting one more foreign-owned company finance American jobs is not!  UAE has proved that they can become rich by not relying on oil; they have become successful business people who are more interested in making money than they are in helping al Qaeda and becoming poor as a result!

Congress and Americans need to heed the advice of an American President who said the following:

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."
 — Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Now That The Smoke Has Cleared

Well, with a ho, ho, ho, a disgruntled Santa Claus has returned home, somewhat puzzled and dismayed with all the hoopla about "Happy Holidays". I remember going into Lowe's during the Christmas and Hanukkah season, and as I left the garden area, the lady said, "happy Holidays”. Sure, and with my best foreign accent, I asked "pardon me lady, but I'm not here, vast ist "Holiday"? she looked perplexed and said, "oh, it's for Christmas" and I replied…"Vast ist Christmas"? and…she looked more confused…either because she couldn't figure out what country or religion I was from, and neither could I, but it sounded good, and she remarked….oh its about the birth of Jesus…and then I blurted out in the best English I could conjour up…."WELL, HELLO", and I walked out leaving her completely astonished. So was I. I did rather well too.
Well, lets look at this fiasco again. For umpteen years we have enjoyed our holiday season being Christmas and Hanukkah. We said "Merry Christmas" and the Jewish brothers and sisters said "Happy Hanukkah". No problems, we knew who we were and respected all for it was our time and their time of the year to enjoy our religious beliefs.
Now in recent years, we are losing our religious heritage. We started this country with both the Christian and Jewish religions. Not Islam, Muslim, Buddha, or Shikh or any other for it was not the period or the time. Today, it is becoming a transition brought on by other countries to come here and not only bring their fine customs, which we employ them to do, but they want us to change our Constitutional beliefs to theirs and give them all the rights and privileges that they feel they deserve to turn our focus to their religious convictions. The ACLU and other left wing organizations pressed forward to get prayers out of school, Congress, public forums, opening of the Senate, etc.

Well gee whiz, guess what, the bas relief sculpture on the Supreme Court is that of Moses. The other buildings around Washington D.C. have many of the Biblical figures that ordain our Christian and Jewish religions. We respect all who bring their culture and religious convictions with them, but stop trying to change our foundations of who we set this government up under and with the help of "God".
We are losing our sanctity of culture because we are giving in to the liberal, left wing, outspoken, radicals who want us to have this complete "open door policy" and we are no longer the purveyors of our constitutional religious structure. We are slowly, or fast becoming the pawns of nations wishing to change who we are. Sure, bring me your tired, and downtrodden, but "Don't Tread on Me"!
Have we become so ready to give in and let it be ?. Have we become so complacent with the way the world is going? God help us if that is where we are heading. If you went to Germany and tried to speak your language, guess what, you better learn some German. Here you are in the middle of those not wishing to speak our language and rattle off in their tongue, hoping that we won't hear what they are saying about us. I say, pass the Legislative requirement for all to learn 'OUR LANGUAGE'. It's time.
It is ridiculous that so much literature which also includes the ballots at election time, to be printed in 10 different languages…that is disgraceful. We are English…speak our language, not with a forked tongue. Even our beautiful Indian tribe heritage learned our language. Not to speak of when you get the telemarketing calls or calling about your IRS statements or computer glitches, you wind up in Bangladesh, India and then you have fun trying to understand their Englishor Manila in the Philippines. It is getting out of hand and we are at their mercy. They know more about our financial well being than we do ourselves.
Well, start writing your Legislatures in Washington to tell them…enough is enough.

When will America Wake Up?

Lee Ellis

When is America going to wake up to the dangers of the leftist mindset and its media such as the Washington Post. The fact that this paper carried such a treasonous leak about prisons in Pakistan and other foreign nations is beyond comprehension. Here, the media made a big deal about a NON-covert employee who worked at Langley and was well known as such in the society circle of her husband, Ambassador Wilson, yet the Post thought nothing of really putting America in harm's way or endangering our alliance with foreign nations by revealing the secrets about these places of incarceration. (The Leftist, Juan Williams on the O'Reilly show tonight, propagandized by calling these prisons "Soviet Gulags"!)

Such prisons, in foreign lands, were kept secret only from the terrorists who occupied or infiltrated these nations. Publicize them, as did the Washington Post,  and the rulers who have allowed them to be used by us could have their families killed by the terrorists for this action, and the prisons would be shut down.

So, apparently, the Post, and the Liberals here in America, would rather have these Islamic terrorist prisoners transported to America where if they escaped or had highly paid lawyers get them out, even if only on bail, could then blow up a local school or church here in the USA, thus killing hundreds of children or other innocents.

Why are we not prosecuting the Senators who leaked this information to the media? These "leakers" of national security have done far more damage to the USA than anyone who told others about Valerie Plame.
