New City Manager for Desert Hot Springs

After a closed door session on February 28, 2006, the Desert Hot Springs City Council finally selected a new city manager by a 3-2 vote, with Councilwomen Mary Stephens and Yvonne Parks casting the two votes opposing the appointment. The City Manager is Ann Marie Gallant, who interviewed at a previous city manager public forum in mid- 2005.

Say Hello to “ma'am” Ann Marie Gallant - The New City Manager of Desert Hot SpringsOne reason she was selected was due to her being able to communicate with the community and the city hall staff. Gallant will have a salary of $155,000 and benefits the same as city employees. She had tried to negotiate for better benefits but this was turned down by the City Council members. Gallant is due to start in her new position in 30 days or so, and will discuss details of her resignation as city manager of King City, CA.

A great loss to the Coachella Valley listening audience:

Pete Forgione, that personable, delightful and humorous voice we have laughed with, cried with and taken into our family will be leaving the airwaves soon. Pete is retiring.

Pete has decided to check his vocal chords and relax awhile.

A Native of New Jersey, Pete started his broadcast career as a rock and roll disc jockey in Orlando, Florida. He soon moved into TV as a weatherman, host of the popular "Dialing for Dollars" show and also appeared on a children's show. He was on the scene broadcasting from the opening of Disney World. Pete migrated to California and worked in Los Angeles at radio station KJOI and the Transtar Radio Networks. He was also guest host of the popular television program "Midmorning LA". He came to the desert in 1989 and joined KWXY as host of the morning show in 1993.
Pete has been at the top of the rating charts in adult listeners from the beginning. In his 40 year career he has won many awards, including local "Broadcaster of the Year" bestowed by the Women's Press Club.

Bob Wetherall, afternoon announcer will take over as Operations Manager of the station, replacing Pete. Pete has been with KWXY for 14 years as the morning personality on one of the most respected and musically outstanding radio stations in the Coachella Valley; KWXY FM 98.5 and KWXY AM 1340. KWXY has been a leader in music and news since it was started by radio pioneer, Glen Barnett, 42 years ago.

Bob Wetherall has been with the station in various capacities since 1998 and was formerly with WCCO Minneapolis and KOEL Oelwein, Iowa. He will continue as mid-day announcer plus his new duties, including production managr.

Mandy Armstrong, who joined the station in 2003, will take over Forgione's morning drive time slot now labeled as "Mandy In The Morning" along with Bill Hesson's news.

Jon Hoffman leaves his overnight shifts to fill Armstrong's Saturday and Sunday morning time. The new schedule will start Friday, February 17, 2006.
